A Happy New Year! |

Having had what we hope was a well-earned rest after our usual busy Christmas schedule the choir is looking forward to another busy year in 2012.
Something of a cloud arose over our build-up to Christmas with the illness of our Musical Director, Christine Best. The choir is fortunate in having an able Deputy Conductor in Ed Pepper, who has led us through the Christmas programme with great assurance. A record audience of over four hundred attended the Christmas Celebration, which also featured the choir of St James' Primary School. The collecting boxes for the Sam Beare Hospice at the end of the concert overflowed with a magnificent total of £800.
Our annual Christmas visit to Brooklands to sing for 'Save the Children' was as enjoyable as ever. Our thanks to Chairman Margaret Pick for inviting us once again - we think the choir, and the Treble Clef Ladies' Choir who also sang, put a smile on the face and a spring in the step of the shoppers! Margaret tells us that almost £900 was raised for the charity on the day. Up on last year, in spite of the economic down-turn!
We were very pleased to be invited by Radio Wey to sing a programme of Christmas music in the Multi-Faith Centre at St Peter's Hospital, relayed live over the hospital radio system and also streamed live to an international (!) audience via the Radio Wey website. Thank you to Mandy Morrow at Radio Wey for arranging this and to Judith Allford at the Centre for making us so welcome.
What really made the event so special was seeing our MD Christine in the audience in the Centre. We wish her a speedy recovery and return to direct and inspire us in 2012.
A Happy New Year to all our supporters! |
