The highlight of our festive season is, as always, our Christmas Concert at St James' Church Weybridge on Friday 11 December, with the choir of St James' C 0f E Primary School.
Our celebrity guest reader will be Carole Boyd, famous for her portrayal of Lynda Snell in 'The Archers' on BBC Radio 4, a role she has played since 1986, and for her voicing of all the female parts in TV's 'Postman Pat'. Carole's television appearances include Minder, Campion, Hetty Wainthropp and the evil Mrs S Melly in BBC Children's TV Bodger & Badger.
Tickets are available on-line HERE, by telephone from 01252 326514, or by personal visit to St James' Parish Centre office on weekday mornings between 9.30am and 12.30pm.
We will also be having our customary 'sing' at the Tesco/M & S superstores at Brooklands, Weybridge, in aid of Save the Children on Saturday morning 12th December.
On Saturday 7th November the choir travelled to Wendover in Buckinghamshire to perform a special fund-raising concert for a little girl called Esmé who is suffering from Rett Syndrome and who needs some costly equipment and software to enable her to communicate with her family and friends. The concert was held at St Mary's Church and successfully raised over £2,000 for Esmé's fund.
You can see a video about Esmé and her condition HERE
On Saturday 3rd October two wonderfully talented young violin students from the Yehudi Menuhin School, Stoke D'Abernon, Kingsley Lin (14) and Louisa Staples (15) gave stunning virtuoso solo performances as guest artists in our Autumn Concert at the Catholic Church of Christ the Prince of Peace in Weybridge. They were accompanied by Svitlana Kosenko, a teacher at the school.
The choir, conducted by our Musical Director, Jonathan Kilhams and accompanied by Mike Wood, performed a lively and varied programme including a number of new repertoire items which were warmly received by an enthusiastic audience. The 'bucket collection' at the end of the concert raised an impressive £605 for the Sam Beare Hospice in Weybridge.
Weybridge Male Voice Choir has been performing to audiences and raising money for good causes and national and international charities for nearly one hundred years. I consider it a real honour to be the Musical Director of this choir, and my hope and expectation is to take the choir to new heights. Every Musical Director has a different approach and different views on where they would like their choir to be. I feel it is important to share these views with you, the choir and audience.
Our Concert Secretary is now taking bookings for 2016 and beyond. If you are connected to a charitable organisation and would like us to perform a fund-raising concert for you, do get in touch.
Please note that we are unable to take bookings for weddings, funerals or weekday daytime performances.
If you do you can generate funds for the choir at no additional cost to yourself, simply by going through easyfundraising.org.uk.
It really is very simple - a couple of clicks once you are registered, then you go directly to the same retailer site that you would have used anyway. John Lewis, Amazon, Boden, M&S are among the big names, as well as hotel booking sites, insurance, car hire etc. etc.
